289 Series “Kountori・Kinosaki” 4-Car Basic Set

Item Introduction

The 289 series is a limited express DC set that was created by modifying the 683 series 2000 subseries, which had previously been used on the Limited Express Shirasagi. Major changes can be seen, such as the removal of AC equipment from the roof, the removal of equipment from the underfloor center section of the car, and changes to the window arrangement, as a result from the conversion of the Green Car into a half-compartment layout. The 289 series used on the Limited Express Kōnotori and Kinosaki consists of 4- car and 3-car formations, and they are operated in formations of up to 7 cars.

  • Models the FG408 formation (basic set) and the FH302 formation (add-on set) from the Fukuchiyama Branch
  • Simplified roof after the removal of AC equipment, reduced equipment and piping in pantograph area and simplified underfloor.
  • The KuRoHa 288 features a half-compartment Green Car
  • Newer type of lightning arrester
  • Car number and seat class markings are pre-printed. Destination display stickers are included.
  • The 3-car add-on set can be stored inside the bookcase of the 4-car basic set.

Cruise Train “Seven Stars in Kyushu” 8-Car Set

Item Introduction

● The “Seven Stars in Kyushu” train is Japan’s first full-scale cruise train, and began operation on October 15, 2013, under the concept “A journey where you encounter a new life” . It tours scenic destinations throughout Kyushu and has gained immense popularity not only among passengers but also among people living along its routes. The train consists of an 8-car formation made up of seven 77 series 7000 type passenger cars and the dedicated DF200-7000 locomotive. In October 2022, the dining car (Car No. 2) was converted into a salon and a new tearoom was added, while a gallery shop and bar were installed in Car No. 3.

Aoimori 703 Series Set

Item Introduction

The Aoimori 703 series is the successor to the Aoimori 701 series and was designed and manufactured based on JR East’s E721 series. Like the E721 series, it features a low-floor, barrier-free body structure using small-diameter wheels and an interior layout based on box seats.

The train’s body design is primarily painted in the corporate light blue of Aoimori Railway, and the character “Molly,” the company’s image mascot, is displayed next to the passenger doors. Unlike the Aoimori 701 series, a pink version of Molly is also included in the design.

Details

  • Models 11 sets equipped with one-man (driver-only operation) display units next to the doors.
  • Bogies, skirts, and underfloor equipment have a blue-gray color-scheme, corporate light blue color as the main theme.
  • Distinctive mouth shapes spelling “A-O-I-M-O-R-I” beside the passenger doors. The pink version of Molly is also reproduced.
  • Reinforced skirts with snowplow.
  • Small-diameter wheels (φ5.2 mm), and the real-life axle distance of 2,100 mm.
  • Front destination display is pre-installed as “Sannohe”; an exchangeable display “Aomori” and destination stickers are included.

 

Specifications

Couplers: The coupler head cannot pivot. When coupling two lead cars together, please use the included skirt parts for proper coupling. Lead car front ends are fitted with dummy couplers with coupler covers.

JNR Version Passenger Cars

Item Introduction

The 14 Series coaches were introduced in Showa 47 (1972) as passenger cars equipped to a level comparable with limited-express rolling stock, featuring simple reclining seats and heat-absorbing glass for the passenger compartment windows. They were used in a wide range of services, including special limited-express trains, charter/group trains, and express services, operating mainly in Honshu and Kyushu.

This lineup of 14 series coaches allows you to recreate JNR-era passenger trains. They can be combined with various JNR locomotives, such as the ED75-0 Late Stage model <3075-5> or EF65 1000 Early Stage model <3089-3>.

  • Recreates 14 series seated coaches from the JNR period, around 1978–1980.
  • Distinctive blue body with two white stripes, the side passenger doors also have white stripes.
  • On the SuHaFu 14 / OHaFu 15, the gangway-end front diaphragm frames on the guard’s compartment side are reproduced in silver.
  • Reproduces underfloor equipment at the car ends, including the waste disposal system
  • Snap-on style bogies.
  • SuhaFu 14 / OhaFu 15 adopt convertible nameplates, including “Express,” “Tsubasa,” “L Odoriko,” or blank.
  • Side Displays: Plain white, with stickers included for destinations, various train signs, and labels.

EF65 1000 Early Stage Electric Locomotive

Item Introduction

The EF65-1000 series was designed for multiple-unit (MU) operation in double-headed configuration and for operation in cold regions, making it a versatile DC electric locomotive for flatland lines. It could haul both passenger and freight cars from ordinary local services to the Blue Trains, ranging from standard freight to high-speed cargo, demonstrating a wide range of capabilities.

This locomotive was widely used across Japan and can be enjoyed in combination with various passenger and freight cars from the same era. It pairs particularly well with the simultaneously released <5281> OHA 14 / <5283> SUHAFU 14/ <5284> OHAFU (JNR versions).

Details

  • Models units No. 1023–1039.
  • Inset-type tail-lights, front ventilation openings, and a narrow step width beneath the front gangway door.
  • Skirt reproduces the form with KE59 jumper plugs.
  • Front handrails and uncoupling levers (black) are separate pre-installed parts.
  • Roof reproduced without fan covers and with the lower running board height characteristic of this type.

ED75-0 Late Stage Electric Locomotive

Item Introduction

The ED75-0 Series was developed in 1963 when the Jōban Line was electrified up to Hirai Station (now Iwaki Station) and served as the successor to the ED71 on the TōhokuMain Line. This 50 Hz AC-only locomotive was produced in 160 units and operated extensively on the TōhokuMain Line north of Kuroiso and the Jōban Line from Hirai to Aomori. It was used for a wide range of services, including freight trains, regular passenger services, and Blue Train long-distance sleeper operations. Ideal for recreating JNR-era passenger and freight train formations in the Tōhoku region and pairs perfectly with the OHA 14, SUHAFU 14, and OHAFU 15 series passenger cars for classic express train consists.

  • Models the locomotive built in 1968, depicting its appearance around 1978.
  • Wide front steps, recessed taillights (inner-mounted type), front ventilation grills, and cut-out-style number plates faithfully reproduced.
