North American Car Corporation (NACC) produced this 33,000 Gallon Non-Insulated tank car design between 1963-1965. These non-insulated “pressure tank cars” were designed to haul a large payload of Liquified Petroleum Gas or Anhydrous Ammonia. Because these cars had two distinct tank diameters, they were called “Dual Diameter” cars. At the top of the car is a large “Manway Nozzle” for gas loading and unloading. These cars are notable because of the handrails that extend across the entire tank from the ends.

NATX “Murphy SPUR Delivery 1965” NACC 1963 Design 33,000 Gallon Dual Diameter LPG/AA Tank Car
– NATX “Murphy SPUR Delivery 1965” gives modelers an example of a very popular billboard paint scheme car. These “Murphy Corporation Lessee” cars have silver-painted tanks, with black end frames. Painted on the silver body is a proud “SPUR” logo on the side of the car. The SPUR lettering inside the logo and on the sides and ends of the tank is dark blue. The logo’s blue letter stenciling contrasts nicely against a white background, and on the right of the logo is the star that is seemingly found on all Murphy branding. This 1965 paint job screams 1960s and 1970s, and Tangent Scale Models are excited to offer it today! Among many small stencils, the words “Liquified Petroleum Gas Only” are stenciled on the right side, denoting the service for these cars. These tank cars roll on Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with 36’ wheels, separate truck brake beams and rotating Timken roller bearing caps. These cars are stunners. Silver “SPUR” tank cars were seen everywhere in North America in the 1960s/1970s period!
